Tim Besley is School Professor of Economics and Political Science and Sir W. Arthur Lewis Professor of Development Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). From September 2006 to August 2009, he served as an external member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee and is now a member of the National Infrastructure Commission. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, the British Academy, and the European Economics Association as well as a foreign honorary member of the American Economic Association and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been President of the European Economic Association, the International Economic Association and the Econometric Society. He was a 2005 winner of the Yrjö Jahnsson Award of the European Economic Association. In 2018, he was knighted for services to economics and public policy. He is President-elect of the Royal Economic Society.
